You are entitled to use our services if your spouse or partner works for the FCO, or for another government department while at Post. However, you will need to register with us to access our full range of services.

How to Register and Subscribe

The DSFA is mainly funded by the FCO, but we do rely on member subscriptions to continue our work, especially to fund our regular newsletter and magazine. Please support us by paying an annual subscription.

Benefits of Membership

Members can access a wide range of courses and support services. These include:

  • Advice from the DSFA Advisers on Careers & Professional Development, Education, Family Information, Going Abroad, Moving to the UK and Special Needs & Disability
  • Job search, presentation skills, networking, social media and going abroad workshops, as well as financial drop-in sessions and courses for Heads of Mission spouses and partners
  • Information and advice from the Community Liaison Officer at Post
  • Training grant for portable career or qualification
  • Career coaching services
  • Newsletter (Bulletin) and magazine (Carousel) three times a year and e-newsletter (Bulletin Online) twice a year
  • Access to DSFA members-only Facebook group
  • Access to all areas of the DSFA website, including news, course dates, information on the advice and support we offer, and past issues of Carousel and Bulletin.
  • Updates by email with latest information on training courses and other member announcements
  • Subscribers are given priority when applying for our training grant and DSFA courses, and are eligible for discounted classified advertising in our newsletter.

Categories of Membership

Full Members:
All spouses and established partners of Diplomatic Service (DS) Officers at home and at Post; single DS Officers with dependent children; one or other (but not both) spouse or partner of a dual DS Office career couple with dependent children. 

Ordinary Members:
Spouses and partners of retired members of the DS; all widows and widowers of serving and retired DS Officers; divorcees of serving and retired DS Officers.

Temporary Members:
Spouses and partners of UK-based members of staff of other Government Departments or the private sector while attached to UK Diplomatic Missions abroad.
